Dear Delevan Families,
As we come to the end of this semester, I want to thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support during this trying time. I know that it has been challenging, exciting, and unpredictable for us all. However, we are ecstatic that our students are back on campus getting to experience the best possible education that Delevan has to offer.
I have some exciting news to share with you:
- Delevan has been awarded a $2,500 Beautify LA Grant. This grant will be used to update some of our structures in the garden and to plant natives plants, fruit trees, and expand the herb garden. I want to thank Emese Simm, parent, for writing this grant and securing these funds for our school.
- After speaking with Alice Ross, Representative from Kevin De Leon’s Office, about our plans to upgrade our library, Delevan was awarded with a $4,999 Library Grant. This grant will be used to update the library’s furniture and purchase additional books. Thank you Alice Ross for assisting us in getting this grant.
Here are some important updates I would like to share with you:
- Traffic around Delevan Drive ES: We are continuing to work with the Office of Kevin De Leon to improve our traffic situation around our campus.
- International Baccalaureate (IB): After much hard work, Delevan teachers have completed writing the IB Unit of “Who We Are”. Exciting inquiry based activities have been created for implementation for the next school year. Teachers are gearing up to continue writing the next four units when we return from Winter Break.
- Starting in January 2022, we will have three (3) recess periods to safely accommodate all the students.
- Koala’s Korner: Starting in January 2022, we will have a monthly newsletter that will be accessible through our website. The newsletter will have IB updates, Principal Message, Spotlight, and Upcoming Events. Be on the lookout for our Koala’s Korner.
I want to wish each and everyone of you a safe and restful winter break. I look forward to seeing our koalas back on campus on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Do not forget to take Flat Bob on your winter excursions. We look forward to hearing about Koala Bob’s adventures and sharing it with Delevan families.
