and Welcome to our Timber 29th coffee with the principal glad that you're all here with us we have a couple of guests with us also thank you for being here we have very involved agenda for you this evening and we're going to get right to it okay to pick everyone knows I'm dr. Pratt I'm the proud principal of Delevan Drive Elementary School that from the year 2019-2020 because of the through the pandemic here the year that we were on Virtual learning Delavan wonderful job that it was awarded the California typical practice old and then I just received an email based on nick.com that Delavan is listed as one of the best elementary schools in America for 2022 so again parents congratulations you worked hard or teachers have worked hard or support staff and working very hard and you know it just it just gives me more to be proud of and I and we continue to work hard that we can maintain a tradition of Excellence for the boys and girls here at Delavan so our table of contents this evening we will have after the introduction or School talked about a school safety and several components including us some covid updates we will have our International Baccalaureate updates as part of a we're going to the ivy process we will have a guest here to talk about Delavan modernization project which is exciting and then we'll have some announcements and then PTA will give some announcements and then we'll have our closing will also have some time for a questions and answers we'll have our closing okay school safety at this time I'm going to turn it over to our wonderful assistant principal Desiree Palacios good evening sorry I had to get my glasses thank you for being here with us this evening so I just have a few components just to share with you we do call the integritas to school plan that we are working on for Delevan Drive part of that is just to let you know that we have controlled and monitored entrance and dismissal we will run monthly in Seadrill they are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month and then we're trying to put a calendar on to our Delevan Drive website so that you can see it on the calendar we are putting our emergency response team together we will definitely have those together for the California ShakeOut that's coming up in October and that's pretty much it for school safety are there any questions and then school-wide positive behavior support in any event just to let you know what's going on with that we are launching koala cash so students are going to be able to earn koala cash by showing exemplary citizen and demonstrating the international Baccalaureate learning learner profile attributes there's 10 attributes and we highlight one every month so every month we will have students design the koala cash and then we asked it in for outside playing or even in the classroom if they're showing exemplary citizenship or the IB learner profile traits then he will learn koala cash and then we will have a big bin somewhere on campus somewhere in the main office where students can drop it off and then we will have Weekly Drawing during the money Monday morning or something I'm and those students will be to come to the main office to select a price on the price will just be a little little incentive Bismillah so there's a question is there a plan to ever that pants back on campus to walk students to class and pick up so right now I believe we're still practicing some covid kobe protocols which are still somewhat of a closed campus we are excited to have you on campus again when we had back to school night and we'll see how parent conferences work out in a we're trying to start other events where you can come onto campus but as of right now we don't have a plan where we will have parents on campus walking students to class okay thank you thank you Miss Palacios so summer some of you have had questions about covid response has call VIP protocols this year as we have gone through situations and we have been you know following the district's guidelines as dictated by coming stemming from you know the Los Angeles County Department of Health and also stemming from the CDC but this year there are some things that are different we know how we know what the procedures were last year we do it procedures were the year before last and this year the procedures are different than last year this year we're in a response to Cole B protocol and I've asked telling you who is the director for the office of covid response for Los Angeles Unified School District to come and share with you some of the differences this year in our covid protocols and responsive to clarify any misconceptions or perhaps just some light on questions you may have or have half gallon thank you Doctor Pat first of all congratulations what exciting news to see such as celebrated excellent at Delevan Elementary School despite all the challenges we've had with covid-19 vaccine to all the parents students the teachers at Delavan for being so resilient to overcome such challenges. Congratulations to all of you after practice shared I did want to also inform weather changes that have happened over time one of their most important changes that we have had to adjust to and pivot is for we used to prove it this past year had the the weekly Baseline testing and because we no longer are doing PCR testing we have switched to using rapid antigen test and in doing so we have shifted from what we used do Lasher was group chasing to what is now individual tray staying positive case it so with that with this response testing that we are practicing there's two categories of individuals who would need to test and that would be for anyone who is symptomatic should all you should be tagged as well as those who are identified as close contact to a positive case they should test within 3 days 345 of exposure there's a different way of looking at it so we are no longer doing the weekly Baseline but we are staying on I'm supporting the response testing through Rapid test for those who are symptomatic as well as identify do that shift and policy sometime is not well publicist other than to our administrators and so we thought I do you know sometimes families may be used to perhaps this pasture where you may have received no. by grade level or buy school today there were five positive cases with him this week at such-and-such school or some of the schools did a notification by saying there are one positive and Ken first grade had this wedding so on and so forth and so that was the way that they chose and I think he's School Community pick the different way as far as a community of do that switch from group tracing to the individual Tracy has been chasing our policy and that was changed in August so I do want to share that information with you so that we are testing in a different way one of those other changes that we wanted to share with you to inform you that it is very important for a rap attack send text to be uploaded to the daily pass even though we are no longer using the daily pass scanner is the dashboard itself is a very effective control for the principal to see oh, and just tested positive I see her positive test I'm going to submit a report of a student that the teacher and I feel work has contacts to Helen and so there's names are submitted via initial exposure management report the ones that principle of or designee submits that report then we are able to inform the students who is identified as a football and so then the students who identify where the teacher is given the rapid test to test within that phase 3 through 5. Of time is the most pertinent time to heaven and if there is access to upload it by day five then our team is currently disallowing those individuals so that we are another question I often go what is about outbreaks and I know Delavan just closed one recently and I did want to share I had spoken with dr. Pratt that our office is monitoring positive cases for the entire District as well as and we will send report daily for all the schools that have what they call a p linked clusters of three or more example your neighboring School I have 30 positive cases but not be declared an outbreak but will that has 34 positive cases but they're linked and to show that exposure happened at the school site and there was Arthur potential outbreak clusters that we report to Department of Public Health at for LA County and then they review all the report that we've done it and then they identify out you know what this cluster of four individual they're in the same class or same as lettuce program or whatever grouping that existed and then they declare the Opera so it is not the principal it's not a community engagement is actually they did Public Health that will open up the outright once they open the outbreak than there is in pain that comes to visit the school and give guidance to say if I would you be able to turn a fire by the main entrance to inform community and then please support the class where they identify cluster is identify them as close contact and Fries monitored for 14 day. They look for a. Of 14 days where there's no additional a tribute to that question once you have established that then they will parts of the the visit silly at the preschool to inform just the classroom at the family's in that classroom because other than the notice that's posted by the main entrance there hoping that you know that families are a warmed but not alarmed by the news so I think that's that for most of them you think that I've attended baby and courage to inform just at their communities with a cluster the password thing that up so I think those are the two areas that I get them was question but if you did have any anything else that you would like to ask was there anything else you guys are doing so well academically I think eventually hopefully we'll be able to be more open we are being cautious as we reopened at campus make sure they were doing the reopening we do have it mailbox if you do have any question if you send us questions we can always respond and dr. You at lausd.net so both of those email addresses are in the chat if you should like to reach out to with any further questions at any time okay thank you so much Helen thank you have a good evening okay okay turn it back over to miss Palacios yes so just a few ID updates International Baccalaureate as you know we have been in the wild addition process so we are in IB candidate school and have been since 2019 are good news is that we are hoping to can for we are planning for submitting location for authorization by the end of this year having completed planning and teaching 6 units with a full round of reflection that's required by International Baccalaureate and then piggybacking on what we were speaking to earlier and Brooke with regard to a school-wide positive behavior these are the learner profiles that we are focusing on for September so students being principle that means making good decisions even when he's lucky and so that was something that we would celebrate our students for and then in October we're going to be looking for students that can show us that they're balanced and as our life has become busier and busier balance is really important so balancing you know school life and also the the digital aspects of our life ending balance with that right screen time making sure that we have a nice day so that's where we are with IV update thank you Miss Colosseo at this time we have another of very special guest with us Ashley Mercado from the facilities services division of community relations for Los Angeles Unified School District she's going to present some information and show you the plans for the beautiful modernization project at Delevan Drive Elementary is about to undergo this has been a project that's been in the works for several years and it's about to take off I was another reason why I feel just so fortunate to be here I'm just what I landed and found out and saw the plans I just couldn't believe how just beautiful and Magnificent Mile of the campus already you know with all of that I felt like I was at Griffith Park you know that with a theater but now we're at spectacular Amphitheater in brand new building and you know additional you know foliage and it's just going to be absolutely beautiful so parents like like one of my favorite movies is the sound of music and one of the songs of what are the laws is somewhere in my youth or childhood I must have done something good do parents somewhere and your youth or childhood you must have done something good because Delavan is about to become just a beautiful campus but even more beautiful do athletes take it away thank you dr. Pratt for inviting us to your meeting so I just want to start my name is Ashley Smashley Macbeth I work with us to delivery services division at Ali unified I do all of the community relations portion of many projects the district but I'm really excited to come out to Delavan and give you guys kind of the overview of where we are please note that this is just you know where we are in terms of design will be coming back in early next year with a reconstruction community meeting where you'll be filled in on all things construction but for now let's enjoy the the beautiful renderings and let's give you an update on the project and I do work on projects by myself so I'm going to go ahead and pass it over to Nikki Bella and Kevin pazmino who will do the presentation thank you dr. Brett sure hello good evening happy to present to you Delevan Drive Elementary School we're really excited to show you what our plans are I'm the design manager La Unified School District I've been working closely with the Architects to make sure that we provide an excellent new school building and interim facilities for the project on my associate here Nick gillick he's a senior design manager and has been part of the project from the beginning he can kind of explain a little bit of how the project got started for some of you that haven't heard about the development of the project the beginning sure sure everyone I'm happy too happy to give a little bit of backstory Kevin and then Kevin's going to Walker's walks through the design my name is I'm a senior design manager at the LAUSD I've actually been working on we have a we have a program of Wichita project is a part of that we've been working on for some time it actually all started with many years ago sadistic attitude had it had a sort of overcrowding problem and in order in a sort of emergency manner place the bunch of what we're supposed to be temporary portable classrooms on their campuses that actually were buildings that were procured from the Department of Housing. H replacement program portable has ended up on I don't know I think more than 100 campuses and they never were they actually were put there and they were extended to be temporary but they actually never went through the full approval process with the division of the state architect so several years ago we decided we really need that we really need to remove or replace these classrooms and put back if when we're putting classes back put back costumes that are up to our current standards in satisfaction of all the TSA protocols so in a lot of campus at the we found that they could be removed and not replaced on about 15 campuses in which Delavan 1 we determined that based on the capacity of the enrollment in the operating capacity since the school that that the deal which portable needed to be replaced and initially there was a sort of low ambition and we thought we might just replace them sort of like for like with with with new Portable Buildings as things evolve are we managed to use that starting point sort of as a catalyst to make I think much more exciting meaningful projects on the unused 15 campuses and at Delavan and in several the other ones you've actually managed to get to the project to the point where actually removing all of the all the Portable Buildings campus and replacing them with new permanent you know the new permanent classroom spaces that are up to are you know current current educational standard sold all the all the best new stuff and all these classrooms so that's that's kind of the backstory near Kevin Kevin's going to show you the design I will be happy to if there's time to do some Q&A afterwards I wanted to mention that to other members of our team that are here with us tonight A Greg Smith he's our project manager the project for quite a while Kevin and myself and also here to answer questions is needed is is Sam alphera he's are what we call Oar he's are going to be our construction manager on the project he's going to be the guy futon sounds really making sure the building gets built on time and on budget in and I hope you have a very critical part of the project going to be with the construction to you but I'm jumping where we need to so the overall project is about 15 classrooms that will be replacing for the 15 crashing relocatable so it's a like-for-like will also be having new food service facilities and a new one shelter that's also being we're removing the old man shelter in the old hot check so we'll be providing new facilities there will be updating the it Network in the existing building of course throughout the campus will also be upgrading some general infrastructure or the project and some new landscape and hardscapes of face structures some accessibility ramps and currently our project is about 47 5 million and we are anticipated to finish in the second quarter of 2026 next song please so we are very very close to our approvals with the Department of State architecture or hoping to be done very soon and kick off into bidding and construction and start this project next quarter for the first quarter of 2023 you're just have a little diagrammatic plan what we're going to be doing so if we look toward the bottom left so we're we're entering the admin classroom building in Ray-Ban Justin north of that that's going to be our zone of construction and will be removing those three relocatable classroom buildings of one shelter in that food service while we're removing those will be have which of the north on the right side of the screen you'll see little orange boxes those represent are in Trump has learned from classrooms and a restroom building so we are working through the state to get these approved so that'll done Northern portion will be our interim facilities are in classrooms and the blue will be the areas with it we're leaving alone so that we can have a fully functioning campus construction site y'all want to come and just go through from our Washington the left to the right the screen so to the left you'll see in The Orange Box that's where are you 15 class some building will be located in the blue bats where that you can service facility will be located and then yellow we have this a covered walkway that connects to the existing covered walkways from the NPR classroom building in the center between the new 15 classroom building the admin classroom building going to have this beautiful Amphitheater or to show you some renters at the house and I will be doing some painting and end on kindergarten building some beautiful landscaping surrounding the site throughout as we move toward the middle of the campus will be having cool coatings on our playground areas and be doing you striping and play equipment in that area as we move a little bit north to the site we're planning on putting a new accessible ramp that takes us from the middle of the campus to the higher portion of the campus when you exit the the accessible ramp at the top to the north you'll have a new parking lot for staff for the campus as well as to the South we're going to have this beauty nature trail so I can buy a new trees are going to be planted so we can order for us to execute all this work the interim facilities and the new classroom building will be doing a little bit of changes to the side next slide okay that's fine it's I know I thought we were going in this slide this is the floor plans for the building so I'm going to work at the I'll be going through the bottom floor plan the first floor plan in blue have General classrooms so you and then in the olive green color wheel of a special ed classroom in the center and then to the right we have our food service and service area and just below that portion of that building will have our new lunch shelter and we have three stairs that take us up to the second floor and right into the Center of that plan there is an elevator that takes you to the second floor so at the top of the floor plan we have it more General classrooms and restroom and a learning Terrace that overlooks the amphitheater space next song please here is where I where is our plan of the removal of trees so I was saying earlier for us to execute this a project we're going to be having our in Traverse City for the north of the campus or weeping be removing some trees that are there but we're also planning on replacing them in kind so right now we are at 206th Street that we we have on-site I remember sleeping 150 and 56 will be removed but we plan on replanting 68 trees so in the final we were going to be with an additional trees proximately 12 additional trees next light please here is the plan with all the new trees at those are the ones that are in in a color of yellows and greens and pinks so we'll be finding lots of nutrients in most of the campus as well as along the site of the new classroom building and in the middle of the amphitheater Courtyard and in front of the MPR next line you are the types of tree species that we plan on planting throughout the site expired and then I'd like to show you some of the renderings so this would be by the entryway to the new classroom building and the building with the emblem that the existing plaster building next line as you walk in to the campus right in front of the kindergarten building this will be the new Amphitheater right there and when the Amphitheatre just above is that covered walkway that connects the main classroom building to the MPR a little box to the left rectangle Elevator Shaft and next I please here just moving a little bit past that covered walkway you can see the one shelter underneath on the first floor and this is the learning Terrace on the second floor Bob with that staircase going up to the learning Terrace Knicks line here we have the another viewed from the other side so you can get a better glimpse of what that cupboard lunch shelter would look like underneath the building right there by the number nine that's where we plan on having the Food Service facility and then on the second floor you can see some of the there's a teacher and some kids that's where the learning Terrace next slide this is another view just an aerial looking down again another Ariel taking a bath the old site right there are we have the existing momper building classroom building and that we have to use it to classroom building next one and if you any questions regarding the project and the silver to Ashley you have any questions after we leave today we are you know we want to be respectful of dr. Pratt's time this is her meeting we just wanted to come and give a brief overview but I know she said we could take a few questions and just please note we don't have constructions the sea fix yet we're working on it will be a back prior to construction started with a whole community meeting all about construction how we keep students safe during construction and how will move to your campus in terms of phasing do all specifics will come early next year to you all but if we have any question I know we have the time to take maybe one or two okay I see so I see you're quite a question regarding traction do we have a date of when construction will begin for the handicap grab that goes through the front of area of the garden maybe Sam I could get more it Maurice a little more specificity what I can say about the handicap ramp that goes by the by the garden is there that would be actually needs to be constructed as a part of our up that those interim housing classrooms that Kevin Kevin described on the upper part of the campus so that's going to be an early that's going to be on the early early phases of the project it'll be one of their I believe one of the first one of the first things he gets worked on when Sam after Sam gets the party and Anna and mmm now the contractors to the contractor so I don't know Sam do you have anything else you'd like to add on that or is that we talked to just want to talk about it more and more in the pre-construction meeting girl sends just to kind of give you a pat timeline it'll be probably be with and that you and if after the first year of construction but what's more important for the parents to know or the people who are operating in the garden is during that time access will be provided to The Gardens of our construction will not impact the function of the garden and we will have I believe a separate meeting with the garden people talk about the logistics on thank you Sam okay so the next question is does the funding of this depend on the passage of a referendum or is it already suspect Kevin this is a good news this is a bond funded project it's been it's been authorized for construction by the board so we're good to go we have all we need is to get the rest of our approvals in place and get a bid and will be will be will be off and running feel free if we missed one of your questions I saw the parts that you missed or they can look at take a look at it again okay alright thank you next line okay so someone else meant more than a meal application online it's online and it to do the week of October 7th so it's one application per family and even if you don't think that you you know your children qualify or you know that they don't it's important that we steal these applications out because it can impact dollars coming to the school so we want to have 100% of our families have submitted the applications so if you take a look you can go online at achieve lausd.net or page or 85 to fill out the more than a meal application again one her family or you can come to the school and get a hard copy and we'll get that to you assist you with filling it out if you need any assistance thank you well we had our music program it started yesterday and for day one it with smoothly I think it would smoothly and ardor actor Larry Newman said it went smoothly he was impressed with you know just how things were facilitated how everything was organized our parents our parents volunteers did a great job and everything well-organized students went to their classes went home or with the white went to the after-school program they received their instruments and you know some of them they looks like the instrument was about the same size as the student but they managed probably carry their instruments home so hopefully it'll be wonderful at home as they're practicing it is wonderful for their achievement we know that music increases spatial-temporal thinking you know it helps in all academic areas and it's really a you know just the spice you know of life it you know helps to create you know and develop a well-rounded important that they are you know bald and Humanities they were involved in physical activity as well as you know their academic preparation so again thank you Karen for enrolling your students and encouraging them to practice and I you know I'm participating this program I think for the inaugural music program at Neff at Delavan that we had you know so many parents and so many students involved in this great news for our kids some upcoming events October 5th next Wednesday is another unassigned day so no school October 12th picture day October 13th elect meeting October 14th we're having a fly mop dance October 19th I'm free the previously scheduled acceleration Day May no longer exist some of you may have heard already on the news or on MPR rethinking of the acceleration days that the district inactive for this year as you know there are 4 days that have been designated as acceleration date the first one was due to happen October 19th and then the the the remaining three were in future months different months and because of those four days the school year was a latent four days you know the California Department of Education requires 180 days of instruction for all stood California and these acceleration days were going to be like summer school intervention days for students to pick up skills that they may be lacking so they the criteria on which students would participate and so there's been some rethinking it because of these four days just one day here one day you know for within four months the date the school year was was Lathan 4 days longer and that's why I we are ending when we are there has been some real thinking about you know these singular day for intervention and so the bargaining a unit and the districts have been in communication there is growing weed he just wants to be a change that instead of having a daycare a day there that these days will be will occur during breaks cell possibly two days at the winter break two days at Spring break back-to-back rather than a day here in a day there and just as these days didn't count for the 180 days of instruction that our mandatory the days were sorry during times when there is a mandatory instruction going on just like summer school or Saturday school or after-school intervention so we don't have that in writing yet it's still being read upon even though it has been announced on the on several news program that is not in writing yet and as soon as it is and writing you will be notified I'm sure the district will be sending out. messages through connected the superintendent will be sending out messages the board will be sending out messages and we will be sending out messages also so just look out for that for those an ounce like I say you may hear about it the same time I do listening to the news so as soon as we hear we will let you know so I told her 19th then would revert back to just a regular instructional day not an acceleration day which wouldn't have counted towards your regular for the 180 days and if this does occur that means that our school year will be shortened for days so a new instructional calendar will have to be approved by the board and that will be available to you as soon as the decision the agreement is finalized as soon as I soon as I get something definitive and right you will get that also in writing okay October 20th is our School site council meeting October 28th Halloween activities were happy about that and I know PTA will be talkin about that a little bit more we will have our costume parade and parents will be allowed on campus to view the parade and the time to be determined so all the details are still being worked out and as soon as we have everything we will send that information out to you Criterion costumes you know you noticed all the information that you may need to be to prepare for that man to to have the time so that you can come participate with us we are also on that same day having our Harvest Festival and our ptas are working so hard all of you have been working so hard and that's going to be on October 28th from 2:40 to 5 p.m. energy an appearance will be invited to participate on that day for all of the events at this time I'm going to turn it over to mr.
